Sorry... gonna have to shut down the website for a while

Dear all,
You might have noticed that there hasn't been any updates for a very LONG time...
Unfortunately, due to work and the staffing situation at work, I'll be really busy after work hours catching up on it.
Perhaps things might improve from late April/ May onwards, but I really can't tell right now.
The worst case scenario is that I will be able to update the site from August onwards.
Rather than let you come back daily to guess whether there's any fresh news, I'd rather officially shut down the site for now.
If you'd like, you can leave me with your email addresses; I'll contact you once the website is up.
Till then, thanks for your support..
For frequent updates on news, check out Jaynestars.com or the Asian Entertainment News Forum.
Bye for now.

My close encounter with my favourite Kenix!!

Kenix, Frankie, Kevin and Elaine were in Singapore just this afternoon. They were first at Junction 8 around 3pm and then at Tampines Mall around 6pm. I went down to Tampines to catch them in action, and here's the best photos I had from the experience!

I had initially thought it was going to be at 5pm, so I had my afternoon all planned out. First, I made a stop at Hougang this morning to borrow a digital camera from my friend (so that the images would be published online much faster - thank god for technology!). Then, next stop was Tampines at around 1.30pm for a spot of leisurely lunch. Then browsed around the shops for a bit, and feeling quite bored already, I made my way up to the 4th floor to investigate the situation at around 4.15pm.

The place was empty, save for one solitary (probably die-hard fan too) sitting at the prime spot in front of the barricase (which was not far from the stage). Smelling a BIG rat, I double checked the backdrop and realised that it was going to start at 6 instead!!

I was pissing mad at not having noticed this earlier - hence wasting so much time - I went back into the mall and called a few people to bitch! Of course, my friends thought it was all very funny; these same friends were also the ones that thought I was very "no life" to do something like this as well. As u can guess, my friends are not big TVB fans...

What to do with the extra time on hand? Wondered around, considered buying a new Nokia handphone and investing in a digi cam of my own, wandered around somemore, and plonked myself into a cafe nearby to have a drink.

Around 5pm, I started to see more and more people moving into the open space where the event was gonna be, and being the kiasu Singaporean that I was, I also decided that I had better go in to stake out a spot.

It was none too late - there was a HUGE crowd already at the front near the barricades. Worried, I quickly went up and plonked myself somewhere in the middle, with no tall people in front of me so that I could get a good shot.

The weather till then had been pretty good... it was cloudy and windy, but at 5.15pm, it started to darken ominously. Then flashes of lightning accompanied by huge crashes of thunder started. And mind you, the crashes of thunder were those that made you instinctively cringe, cover your ears, and hope to God that you didn't get struck by lightning.

But the fans, being very hardy and persistent (*ahem* like myself), stood their ground. Come brinestone, rain or even the possibility of being electrocuted, nothing was gonna make them leave their spot. Same here for me. (Also, it was because if I left then, I would probably lose my vantage spot. No way man!)

Everything ready, I decided to do a camera check of the area. You know, make sure that I could get a good shot, etc. To my horror, the stupid camera displayed a low battery and went dead. Bloody hell! And I had actually gone to buy a battery (ok, this was one of those battery operated types) beforehand. Ok, that was a cheapskate $2 Energiser battery, so I should have not tried to save money on that. Morale of the story - never buy Energiser batteries for something as important as this.

I was caught in a huge dilemma. To go off and buy fresh batts and lose my good spot or not? In the end, I decided I couldn't not take these photos and dashed off to the basement to buy the batts from a photo store. I dashed back up, and of course, I had lost my space. Now I was stuck behind this old man who was very tall and was blocking my view. Sigh!

At 5.30pm, the emcees started playing pre-performance games. There were 6 questions, and the winners got to get 2 tixs for lunch with the artistes tomorrow morning. They were really simple questions, like What's the colours of TVB's logo? Who's the official magazine for the event? etc. Then came the 3rd question - Name two sponsors of the event. I knew the answer, so I prepared to put my hand up. But all the while, I never thought I would win. Hey, you're speaking to someone who has never won a prize in my life - not lucky draw or D&D prizes, not 4D or Toto or anything.

To my shock, the DJ called upon me (I was merely one of the many that raised hands to answer), and thank goodness I got the answer correct. I was so stunned. My hands were shaking so badly that I couldn't shoot any photos. (It's also the reason why there are so few Kenix photos that turned out well... sigh)

The stars only appeared around 6.30pm, due to the heavy taffic because of the rain. They chatted for a while, and then they retreated backstage. One by one, they emerged in front again to chat for a while and then sing a song.

First up was Kenix. She looks just as she does on TV. In fact, she doesn't look as thin, which is great! Here, she was glowing with health. She sang a Canto song (don't remember all the song names), and her singing's improved a little from Love Bond actually.

Next up was Frankie. (BTW, Kenix calls Frankie Ah Long.....) The DJs asked him what he thought of Kenix's singing, and being quite clever, he sidestepped the issue and asked the audience what they thought of Kenix's singing. There was a huge roar of approval. However, Kenix reminded Frankie that he had not answered the question.... quite funny really.

Frankie sang a David Tao song. His singing is actually pretty good. If you ask me, he sings better than Kevin (who is a singer turn actor). In shows, Frankie always looks rather small in build, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that he was quite well built in person. Like Kenix, he looks just as he does on screen. Kenix was more professional on stage - you can tell that she's used to dealing with crowds, and knows how to joke and cajole the crowd. Frankie came across to be a little more real. He smiled a lot, waved a lot, and just seemed .... a little more real somehow....

Next was Elaine. For the record, and in danger of offending her fans, I don't really like Elaine. Her turn as Chloe in Revolving Doors of Vengeance turned me off her completely - so irritating she was in the show. But to qualify, that was the first show I caught her in, so I figured that it was probably that her acting was just so good (as the evil cousin in the show) that she succeeded in turning me off. But in real life, she is actually quite sweet. She speak Mandarin really well as well, quite surprising. She also sang a Mandarin song.

Last was Kevin Cheng. Horror of horrors, my camera now decides to tell me that hey, you've used up all your space on your 128MB SD card. So I had to delete unwanted photos, cursing and swearing and worried that I would miss some great Kevin shot, and also cussing the camera for being soooo slow in reviewing the past photos.

The next big irritating thing was that the two guys in front of me (the old man mentioned before plus this young guy with a really besar, i.e. big, camera) started to really block my view. They had been doing that all evening, but now, it was really bad. Ok, I'm quite realistic that with events such as these, you're gonna have such situations. But it was really bad. The young guy kept shifting, raising his arm or head at all the wrong moments, so that instead of a Kevin shot, I get a hand or head shot.... GRRRR.... Remember, as I had no space in the card, I had to go back and delete them, very slooooowly, and then try to catch Kevin as he walked to the left of the stage (which was also very infrequent)... Can die!

What was really surprising for me was the next to Kenix, Kevin was the most popular artist here. You should have heard the screams when his name was called. Somehow, the DJs' questions turned to his love life, and poor Kevin had to say that no, he does not currently have a girlfriend, but he's looking for one (doubtlessly playing to the crowd...) He sang the same song as the one he did for the All About Men CD.... quite nice too....

The entire event ended around 7+ pm, and it was a very tired, sweaty albeit happy me that made my way home, planning what to wear for lunch at the Esplanade tomorrow!!! More pixes hopefully tomorrow. Till then, over and out...

Myolie scales 17m wall with Bosco at her side

Bosco Wong and Myolie Wu did a spot of rock climbing yesterday as part of the opening ceremony for a charity event. The normally steady Myolie was pretty nervous, but with rumoured boyfriend Bosco by her side, she was still all sweet smiles. The 17m high wall posed no problems for Bosco who scaled it easily. However, Myolie was much clumsier, but she made it in the end.

After reaching the top, Myolie then had to rappel down. “This was my first time trying out rock-climbing and rappelling. Although I don’t have a fear of heights, when I reached the highest point of the wall, I realized that my legs had gone rather soft. But it’s ok! I like new challenges, and I’m the first female artiste to do something like this. Plus this is a charity event, so it’s quite meaningful. I think Bosco is very good at this.”

When asked to comment on recent rumours of sparks between herself and the Japanese model, she denied it. “I was not even in HK, so I don’t know what happened. (Do you think that there is a possibility of further development between you guys?) No lah, I don’t have time for relationships now.”

Ron and Ella would rather not earn money than appear together

The rumoured couples in HK’s entertainment circle have been very popular recently, with advertisers willing to fork out big bucks to invite the “couple” to their events as their guaranteed publicity. However, not all rumoured couples were willing to take up such offers. Ron Ng and Ella Koon was one of those. They both rejected an offer to film an ad, even though there was lots of money to be earned.

Having filmed Revolving Doors of Vengeance together, both Ron and Ella had to subsequently endure over a year’s worth of rumours, and they are sick and tired of it! Initially, they did not really care about the rumours, but they got more and more ridiculous. Now, both Ron and Ella are on each other’s blacklist. There were stories that Ron, upon hearing Ella’s name mentioned among the crew, had asked them to shut up. Ella too had asked people never to mention Ron’s name to her.

Responding to the news that Ron and Ella refused to do commercials together, Ron’s manager denied this saying, “Whether or not a job is accepted depends on its nature and whether there would be any scheduling problems.” However, Ella’s manager admitted that advertisers had approached them to do an ad together, but fearing problems, he had turned them down.

Because of Ron, Ella has lost out on many opportunities to earn money. Recently she won $5K in a TV programme, and she said that she was finally able to fulfil her dreams of getting her teeth straightened out. She said, “I have buck teeth, but my fans don’t mind. But I hope to get the fixed.” As she would have to wear braces for a year, Ella was teased that she would not be able to kiss her boyfriend. However, what she hopes to get fixed the most are her ears – she has far too many ear piercings. Would she wear a nipple ring, she was asked? “No, after all, no one would see it!”

Kevin's dinner with a relative blown out of proportion

Kevin Cheng attended a promo event at a shopping mall yesterday, and he talked about rumours that he and Sheren Tang were a couple. They had been photographed having a candlelight dinner together. In response to that query, Kevin laughed till he teared. It turned out that the person in the photo was his relative and not Sheren.

However, he praised the tabloid for their fertile imagination and creativity, and he hoped that the tabloid would leave him in peace. If he was ever in a relationship, would he announce it to the world? Kevin said, “I think that being in a relationship is a private affair amongst two people, and there’s no need to advertise that fact. However, if I ever get married, I will let everyone know.”

What's Moses unhappy about?

Moses Chan was photographed at 11pm last night at a Causeway Bay convenience stores. Although there are speculations that he may have planned to meet alleged girlfriend Bernice Liu there, he was seen to be very troubled. Pacing up and down the street, he stopped at a newsstand and browsed through copy after copy of tabloids, his frown deepening after each copy. Moses’ War and Beauty did very well in Hunan recently, and by right, he should have nothing to be unhappy about.

Sonja's mom clingy ways unhealthy?

Sonja Kwok and Amy Chan were the special guests at a jewellery shop’s opening of a branch yesterday. Amy was wearing a jewellery set worth $800K, while Sonja showed up with jewels worth $500K. The two also turned up in low-necked dresses, and were unafraid of snatching each other’s limelight as they had their own unique beauty.

Earlier, Sonja had accompanied her mother on a holiday to Thailand, and were snapped by the paparazzi while swimming. Resigned to her fate, Sonja said, “It can’t be helped. It was a public place anyway, and I am a public personality, so everywhere I go, I get snapped by photographers. (Will you not wear a bikini because of this should you go swimming?) No. I feel healthy, and that’s the most important thing.” Regarding allegations that she had flirted with male swimmers at a swimming pool, Sonja replied matter-of-factly. “Tabloids are forever writing stuff like this. Actually, these rumours aren’t that bad.” However, Sonja’s mom was quite upset about being snapped in her swimsuit at her age.

Sonja’s mom has not left her side since Sonja’s break-up with Derick Wan. When asked if her mom’s presence would deter future suitors from wooing her, Sonja replied that she quite enjoyed her mom’s company, and was not in a hurry to start another relationship.

Amy had to rush back to Shenzhen for her filming, in which she is acting as Anita Mui. For her role, she had specially gone on a diet to lose weight.

Angela used to show off her love letters from others to her boyfriend

Angela Tong and others took to the catwalk yesterday to publicise OC, an English drama that the TV station Pearl will be showing. Angela revealed that when she was 5 to 6 years old, she was a child model in Canada. “That was my first time, and it was to help my uncle. I didn’t get any money, but I got some new clothes. Later on, I also did a catwalk during high school. I was the only Chinese in my entire class. I was very popular. I used to receive boxes of love letters, and I would show them to my boyfriend so that he would know how popular his girlfriend was.”

Bosco jealous of Myolie's new man?

Bosco Wong, Niki Chow and Kevin Cheng accepted a Capital Radio interview yesterday to publicise their new serial Under the Canopy of Love 《天幕下的戀人》. Bosco, who has been rumoured be wooing Myolie Wu via MSM , was asked to comment on the rumoured developments between her and a Japanese Daniel Wu look-alike model that she was filming a wedding gown commercial with. Myolie is currently filming Tai Chi 《太極》in China, and Bosco has not seen her for some time now. However, they would be attending an event later together, and he jokingly said that he would be forcing her to have dinner to force a confession from her.

With regards to the Japanese Daniel Wu look-alike, he said, “As long as he’s handsome, it’s ok. (Do you think you’re handsome?) No, I don’t think so. I hope to be remembered for my talents rather than my looks. (Does Myolie prefer talents or looks?) I think she would want both in a man. As long as he looks pleasing, it’s ok. (So do you think she finds you pleasing to look at?) When we’re filming, she often finds me irritating because of my antics. (Then, doesn’t me you won’t have a chance with her?) My career is taking off now. I will be focusing on singing and acting, and saving enough to buy a house. (When are you getting married?) When I have enough money and find someone to spend my life with. However, that will be very much later.”

Ron's pissed off with his Italian shopping experience

The extremely popular Ron Ng has been flying around thanks to work the last year, and has been shopping at many branded stores. However, while he was shopping in Italy earlier, he was looked down by the store’s assistants, and because of that, he is hopping mad. “At first the female assistant treated me warmly because she thought I was a Japanese. When she realized I was a Chinese, her attitude underwent a 180 degree change, and refused to serve or even look at me.”
